British Ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn called on Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire on Tuesday.
During the meeting held at the Office of the Speaker in Singha Durbar, they exchanged their experiences and went over topics of bilateral interests.
Mentioning the two-century-long diplomatic relationship between Nepal and the UK, established in 1816, and the completion of 100 years since the signing of the Treaty of Friendship between the two nations, Ghimire stated that the two nations shared a unique political, economic, and cultural relationship.
“The UK and Neal share common values of democracy, parliamentary system, law, and human rights,” Ghimire said. “The UK holds a long and rich practice and history in these matters, which are exemplary for Nepal.”
The Speaker also expressed gratitude to the British government for providing relief materials during the 2015 earthquake and vaccines to control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, said Shekhar Adhikari, press advisor to the Speaker.
Ghimire also emphasised on the parliamentary exchange between the two countries through the Parliamentary Friendship Group, Adhikari added.
Ambassador Fenn expressed his belief that Nepal would speed up its development by keeping the manpower in the country. He also assured that the UK would continue to support Nepal, mentioning that preparations were underway to increase support and aid.
