A team of Nepal Army personnel on Sunday defused an improvised explosive device planted at Kamal Pokhari of Syuchatar, in Nagarjun Municipality-10.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Hobindra Bogati, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, locals had informed police after they saw a suspicious object that looked like a partly buried pressure cooker at around 10am.

Police rushed to the site for preliminary investigation after learning about the object.

“The pressure cooker contained explosives. However, it was defused by the Nepal Army before it could explode and cause any harm,” Bogati told the Post. “Investigation is going on and we have intensified the search for the suspects.”

The IED was found two days after a blast at the residence of Rohan Gurung, president of the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies, in Basundhara, Kathmandu.

Earlier on February 22,an explosion was carried out at the gate of Ncell in Nakkhu, Lalitpur. One person had died and two others were injured in the blast.

The Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal has owned up to both the blasts in the Capital.
