President Bidya Devi Bhandari has authenticated the amendment bill on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons on Friday.
President Bhandari authenticated the bill, which was endorsed by both the Houses, this afternoon.
With the authentication of the bill, the tenure of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Commission on Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) has been extended by a year.
The government extended the tenure of TRC and CIEDP saying that the commissions are yet to complete their remaining works.
The TRC has received around 63,000 complaints while it has completed preliminary investigation into 4,000 cases only. Similarly, the disappearance commission conducted primary investigation into around 2,200, out of 3,000 complaints filed with it.
The government however has decided not to extend the tenure of the chairpersons and member of the commissions. They will remain in office only until mid-April.
Meanwhile, Chairman and a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, one of two transitional justice bodies, has already resigned from his post.
