The parliamentary Hearing Committee has unanimously endorsed Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana as the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Following the endorsement, Rana has become the first chief justice to be appointed for a full four-year term after Bishwo Nath Upadhyaya in 1995.
The Constitutional Council on December 13 had unanimously nominated Rana, senior most justice at the SC, to head the judiciary.
Rana will be replacing outgoing Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra, whose tenure ends today on age ground.
