A Special Court bench chaired by Baburam Regmi along with Justices Dwarikaman Joshi and Ratna Bahadur Bagchand has slapped one year jail sentence to Lama and confiscation of property worth Rs 4.5 million that he earned through illegal means.
Five years ago, the Department of Money Laundering had lodged a case against Lama and five members of his family for amassing disproportionate property worth Rs 270 million.
Lama, who is doing time in the Dillibazaar-based central jail on arms and ammunitions case, is the first notorious gangster who faced an action in the case filed by the Department of Money Laundering.
The court, however, has acquitted others members of Lama’s family.
