An extended meeting of the party concluded that it would not be appropriate to go for unification by fixing the date right away.
The meeting convened at party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Khumaltar, Lalitpur on Sunday held discussions on current political issues.
Maoist Centre leader Devendra Poudel said the meeting dwelt on choosing a path of graceful unification. He said the leaders present at the meeting agreed that sharing of seats on percentage basis for unification will send a negative message. He said the party has decided that Chairman Dahal will present his statement, during a joint address of the two parties’ chairmen later today, so as to give a positive message about party unification. The meeting has also reached an agreement to put forth a proposal on forming a mechanism to steer the government.
Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal informed the meeting about the progress regarding unification made during his meetings with Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli.
Dahal is said to informed the party leaders about the agreement reached with Oli on having Sun as election and mentioning “people’s movement” and Maoist-led “People’s War” in party documents.
Talking to media persons following the meeting, party Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal said the party will not make any haste in forming a new party by merging two political parties. "The date for the unification cannot be declared right now, though the merger is essential," she said.
