An unusual snowfall has blanketed Mahare, Ghodepani/Poon Hill and Khopra—popular tourist destinations in the Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi district.An unusual snowfall has blanketed the Annapurna trekking region in Myagdi district. Mahare, Ghodepani/Poon Hill and Khopra, among other places, in the Annapurna Rural Municipality have been blanketed with snow on Friday.
The Guranse Jungle, which is the biggest jungle of rhododendrons in the world, saw a snowfall on Friday.
“The jungle covered with red rhododendrons flowers has now been blanked with snowfall. Tourists trekking in the region have been elated after seeing snow and rhododendron at the same time,” said Ghorepani tourism entrepreneur Teksar Buddhaja, “The view of blue sky after the snowfall and snow on the rhododendron flowers is majestic.”
As the period between March-May is the best season for trekking and mountaineering in Nepal, a large number of tourists have reached Ghandruk—Ghorepani area of the Annapurna trekking region.
The trek, which passes through a dense jungle, was covered by a variety of rhododendrons till Wednesday, but the unusual snowfall of Thursday has blanketed the jungle.
According to Annapurna Conversation Area Project, of the 32 species of rhododendrons found in Nepal, eight species are found in this jungle.
