Locals in Dhankuta have enforced a general strike on Monday demanding the district be declared the capital of province 1.
The banda has also been called in settlements areas including Hile, Sidhuwa, Pakhribas, Jitpur, and Rajarani, Dandabazaar. The protestors have been protesting for the past three weeks to press for their demands.
Coordinator of Protest Mobilisation Committee Sundar Babu Shrestha said educational institutes and transportation were open despite the strike. Shrestha said Dhankuta has remained as a major administrative place since the Rana regime and the strike was called to put pressure to declare Dhankuta as the provincial capital.
The protestors are planning to picket Regional Administration Office for one hour from 12 pm.
