An improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated targeting election candidates of the left alliance at Chhathar Rural Municipality-1 of Tehrathum district on Saturday. The candidates were on their way to address an election assembly when the incident took place. Bijay Subba, UML politburo member and left alliance proportional representation candidate from Tehrathum, and party leader and cadres were heading to Sukrabarey Bazaar to address the election assembly when the IED went off at Teliya river near the border of Tehrathum and Dhankuta districts. The explosion caused minor damage to the vehicle in which Subba along with other party members were travelling. Leaders and cadres escaped the explosion unhurt, said police.
In another incident, an unidentified group detonated an IED targeting an election assembly attended by CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal at Pakadi in Mayadevi Rural Municipality in Kapilvastu on Saturday. The IED went off soon after Dahal concluded his speech. The incident site is about 100 metres from the stage from where Dahal was speaking.
Similarly in Palpa, an IED was detonated targeting the vehicle of CPN (Maoist Centre) politburo member Tularam Ghartimagar at Khulkhule in Tinau Rural Municipality-2 on Saturday evening. Jeep driver Bharat Shrestha of Tansen-6 was injured in the blast, said Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Dhakal.
Ghartimagar is a left alliance candidate for the provincial assembly from Palpa-2 (A). One person has died and scores of people have been injured in poll-related violence.
A temporary cop in Tulsipur of Dang, who was injured in a blast on Tuesday near an election rally of the Nepali Congress attended by Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, died on Wednesday.
In another incident on Wednesday, NC’s federal parliament candidate from Udaypur-2 and Nepal Student Union Udaypur district president Mira Katuwal were seriously injured when an IED was detonated targeting their vehicle at Dunuwarbeshi of Udaypur.
Four people were injured in an explosion in Itahari on Thursday. An IED was detonated in the Capital on Friday at UN Park near the Thapathali bridge.
