Police have arrested Nirabh Gyawali, son of Devi Gyawali, CPN-UML mayoral candidate in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, from Kathmandu on Wednesday.
A police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested Gyawali on the basis of a complaint lodged by Renu Dahal, CPN (Maoist Centre) candidate in Bharatpur Metropolitan City and daughter of then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Dahal had filed a complaint against Gyawali saying he had made abusive and defamatory remarks on a social media site Facebook, with an intent to assassinate her character.
Devi is vying against Dahal for the top post of the city.
SP Prakash Jung Karki said that he faces cyber crime charges as per the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008.
