Addressing a programme in the Capital on Wednesday, CEC Yadav said that the government annual plans and policies and fiscal budget to be unveiled as per the constitutional process should be in line with the election code of conduct. “The second phase of local level elections would be conducted on the slated date of May 14, if the date is postponed the commission wouldn’t be able to make its preparations,” said Yadav.
The enthusiasm seen during the filing of nominations for the elections is the primary indication of the preparations and success of the first phase polls. He claimed the EC, this time around, has been stressing on the voters’ education with a view to increase the voter turnout, to decrease the number of invalid votes in the local level election that is going to be held after a hiatus of 20 years.
He, however, admitted that it has been quite difficult for the candidates to reach the houses of people for canvassing votes and imparting voters’ education because of the larger area. He said the vote counting would be initiated after the collection of ballot boxes.
