Dhikurpokhari wants to become part of metropolis
The residents of Dhikurpokhari have started a protest demanding that their village should be included in Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City.
The residents of Dhikurpokhari have started a protest demanding that their village should be included in Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City.
They staged an hour-long road block at Pokhara-Baglung Bus Park to press their demand on Monday.
The Local Level Restructuring Commission (LLRC) has incorporated Dhikurpokhari in Annapurna Village Council with Salyan, Lumle, Dangsing, Ghandruk, and wards 1 and 2 of Bhaduretamagi VDC.
Dhikurpokhari locals, however, contend that their village should be a part of the Pokhara Lekhnath metropolis on the grounds of proximity. Punya Paudel, former chairman of Kaski District Development Committee, said Pokhara was conveniently located for the people of Dhikurpokhari than Majhgaun, the administrative centre of Annapurna Village Council.
The villagers have relayed their concern to the District Coordination Committee and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development.
Ubarak Kunwar, a local Nepali Congress cadre, said they will not accept the decision of the LLRC to include Dhikurpokhari in Annapurna Village Council.
He warned that the people in the village will boycott the upcoming local elections if their demand is not addressed.
In Syangja district, the people from Mirmi village padlocked the administrative centre of their village council at Birgha on Monday. Claiming that Brigha is not a suitable location for an administrative centre, the Mirmi locals have demanded the LLRC and the government to base the centre of the village council at a more convenient place.
