The hunger strike of Bikas Tiwari, Chairman of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Gajendrabadi), demanding reforms in services of Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj, the district headquarters of Saptari, has entered 14th day on Tuesday.
Anguished by government apathy towards Tiwari's demands, students organised a protest rally in Rajbiraj on Tuesday to express their solidarity with the cause.
The protest rally that commenced from Shiva Temple in the area marched around the town. They demanded the government address the demands of the lone crusader without any delay.
Tiwari began his hunger strike at the hospital premises on November 23. The prolonged hunger strike has deteriorated his health condition.
A team led by Dr Mahesh Khanal, chief of Eastern Regional Health Directorate, had held talks with Tiwari but Tiwari declared not to break his fast until Health Minister arrives by himself.
The demands of Tiwari are to make the hospital children-friendly, provide healthy and nutritious food to the patients, arrange fresh drinking water at the hospital premise, construct main entrance gate, availability of doctors for eye, nose, neck, skin, among others, availability of radiologist, construction of maternity building among other under-construction buildings, stick a list of medicines to be provided by the government in hospital premises, among other demands.
