Of the total 449 quake-damaged school buildings in Gorkha district, only 66 such schools have got new buildings so far. Barpak in the district was the epicenter of the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck the country on April 25, 2015.

It was shared during the handover ceremony of a new school building for Amar Primary School at Ratmate, Namjung VDC-1 in the district.

A five-storey building built with the financial assistance worth around Rs 1.8 million from a humanitarian charity in the UK - Khalsa Aid - was handed over to the school management committee amid a programme held at the school in Sunday.

The teaching learning activities in the school were being operated under the open sky following the April 25, 2015 earthquake that had damaged its building.

District Education Officer (DEO) Dipendra Subedi and Khalsa Aid India Branch's Managing Director Amar Pratap Singh jointly inaugurated the quake-resilient building.

The school having 66 students conducted its classes in new building from today, shared Principal Tilak Prasad Kapri.

JICA has pledged to help reconstructed 28 s quake-damaged school buildings in the district while sources for financial assistance have been identified to rebuild more 107 quake-damaged schools in the district, according to DEO Subedi. RSS
