Ram Kumar KC, the DPHO vector control inspector, said these were the first two fatalities caused by dengue in Chitwan this year.
Both patients died during treatment. The first patient, Pitambar Raya, 47, of Sarlahi, died at Bharatpur Hospital on Sunday while the second one was a Chitwan native, 11-year-old Shila Thapa, who died at Chitwan Medical College on Tuesday.
According to the DPHO, 653 dengue cases have been diagnosed in the district in the last three months.
Dengue is an infectious disease usually contracted from mosquitoes belonging to the Aedes Aegypti genus.
High fever, body ache, nausea, nasal bleeding and rashes are the common symptoms of the disease. Dengue can become life threatening when the disease develops into a haemorrhagic fever.
In 2010, dengue had killed five people and downed 739 others in Chitwan.
