Jit Jang Basnet, close to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, has been unanimously elected as the president, while Uttam Prasad Chapagin of Krishna Prasad Sitaula panel has been elected vice president. Ram Chandra Poudel loyal Bhupendra Jang Shahi has been elected as general secretary and Deuba’s panel’s Bidhwan Gurung has been picked as treasurer.
The disgruntled faction led by Sitaula forwarded Chapagain’s name at last after failing to arrive at consensus.
Though the four-member working committee was announced from Pokhara, the remaining office bearers and members will be announced from Kathmandu, said Directive Committee member Ram Krishna Yadav.
The convention has increased the size of its working committee from 61-member to 95-member. Of them, 28 will be picked from provinces, 23 from open category, seven from women category, four from indigenous, four from Madhesi, three from Dalit, three from backward communities and one each from martyr’s family, Tharu and Muslim community while the remaining sixteen members will be nominated.
