Besides delivering speeches, Deuba will be meeting top leaders in India including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Deuba will reach Goa, India, directly on Friday. He will deliver a speech there on the theme “democracy, development and dissent” organised by India Foundation, a think-tank close to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
The third edition of the India Ideas Conclave will see a debate on democracy in India after 70 years of independence. According to the organiser, there will be a video address by Dalai Lama at the programme.
BJP President Amit Shah will also speak on the occasion. Indian State Minister for External Affairs MJ Akbar, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar are among those addressing the event.
The conclave will bring together policy makers and public intellectuals from India and abroad. Over 350 intellectuals including government leaders, corporate leaders, scholars, politicians and social activists will participate in the event to exchange ideas and opinions “in a candid and scholarly atmosphere”, the foundation said.
After addressing the programme, Deuba will return to New Delhi where he will meet top politicians.
According to sources, Deuba will meet PM Modi and BJP President Shah, among other prominent leaders. He will also deliver a speech at the Jawaharlal Nehru University. This is Deuba’s first official visit to India after he was elected as the NC chief in March.
The visit comes at a time when the political parties in Nepal are working to register a constitution amendment motion in Parliament in an attempt to address the demands of the agitating Madhes-based parties.
An impeachment motion against Lokman Singh Karki, the suspended chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, has been tabled in Parliament. India is said to be “displeased” at the move.
