JICA starts reconstruction for earthquake recovery
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has initiated its post-earthquake recovery work with the reconstruction of Women and Children Office in Chautara, Sindhupalchok. According to a press statement, this is one of the projects under Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) that JICA started to support earthquake victims with an immediate impact.
The construction of building includes 2 stored training rooms, 2 offices and toilets and reinforcement of retaining wall. The building was badly damaged by last year’s earthquake.
Besides this, JICA plans to reconstruct total 7 public facilities in Sindhupalchowk through QIPs including District Agricultural Development Office. QIPs covers two districts that are mostly affected by earthquake namely Gorkha and Sindhupalchowk.It includes reconstructing public facilities such as health post, VDC building, etc. to set up better public service in the area. It also supports livelihood through vegetable and crop cultivation as well as some projects related gender issues.
The Government of Japan announced total approx. 260million USD for the rehabilitation and recovery activities. Among which some of them have already been implemented in various sectors through diversified scheme to realize Build Back Better in Nepal.
In the foundation laying ceremony of Women and Children Office in Chautara Local Development Officer of Sindhupalchowk Krishna Bahadur Shahi and Chief Representative of JICA Nepal Tsutomu Shimizu, and Divisional Chief of Department of Urban Development and Building Construction Tanka Prasad Gautam jointly laid the foundation stone for the office.
“JICA believes that the reconstruction of this building will benefit women and children in Sindhupalchowk through providing a training space with EQ resistant structure as well as user-friendly facility,” read the statement.
