Proton launches Malaysian-made EV in Nepal
Proton Malaysia and Jagdamba Motors introduce the Proton e.MAS 7, with plans to expand sales and service networks.
Post Report
Proton Malaysia, in partnership with Jagdamba Motors in Kathmandu, has launched its first electric vehicle in Nepal—the Proton e.MAS 7. The model is the first Malaysian-made EV to be introduced to the local market.
The partnership between Proton and Jagdamba Motors dates back to November 2018, when Jagdamba was appointed as the sole authorised distributor for the brand in Nepal.
The Proton e.MAS 7, developed in collaboration with Chinese automaker Geely, was officially unveiled in Kathmandu by Proton CEO Li Chunrong, according to the company.
Edmund Lim Meng Thong, chief executive officer of Proton International, said the company aims to ensure long-term sales and after-sales support through Jagdamba’s network. He added that Geely has not appointed any official or authorised seller of Geely-branded vehicles in Nepal, with the focus remaining solely on Proton.
Jagdamba Motors said it plans to establish 12 showrooms and service centres across Nepal by the end of 2025, three of which are already in operation.
In Malaysia, the Proton e.MAS 7 has become the top-selling EV model as of July 2025, according to company figures.
Proton currently joins a growing number of automakers introducing electric vehicles to Nepal, as the country works to expand its EV ecosystem.
