UN special rapporteur Šimonovi arrives today

“During my visit, I will consider the systemic causes of gender-based violence against women, and the situation faced by those who encounter multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination and violence, such as indigenous women, women with disabilities, migrant and refugee women and women from remote or rural communities,” Šimonovic said in a statement.
During her 10-day stay, Šimonovic will also evaluate laws, policies and preventative services related to violence against women, and meet with senior government officials.She will also speak with representatives from the UN system, international agencies, civil society, the National Human Rights Commission, survivors of violence, and individual communities.
Prior to her departure, Šimonovic is scheduled to share her preliminary findings in a press meet that will take place in Kathmandu on 29 November.
She will present a final report to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2019.
