Land prices in Teghari of Kailali district has risen following the provincial assembly’s designation of Godawari as the capital of Province 7.
On Friday, the Provincial Assembly Meeting endorsed the proposal to name Province 7 as Sudurpashchim and Godawari as its capital. Since then, people have been trying to purchase land in Teghari area because of its proximity to the capital.
Bhim Bahadur Thapa Magar, a resident of Teghari, had planned to sell his five katthas of land a year ago. But now, he has changed his mind after Godawari was named the provincial capital.
“The agents are frequenting my house on a daily basis to buy my land,” said Magar, adding that he has no intention to sell his land right now.
Bhojraj Joshi, a local, said Teghari residents are mostly Janajati people with low economic status.
“Each family has one to five katthas of land in Teghari and they are eagerly waiting for the hike in land price,” said Joshi.
Real estate entrepreneur Puskar Bhatta said it’s obvious that people are plotting their land after Godawari was declared the provincial capital. “The land in Teghari and its vicinity is in high demand,” said Bhatta. “In the past, a land plot cost Rs 3 to 4 million, now the price for the same land has increased to Rs 10 million.”
