Nepal Television (NTV) has started broadcasting news bulletin in Sanskrit language.
The news in Sanskrit is broadcast on NTV at 9 am every Saturday. NTV Executive Chairman Mahendra Bista said the news bulletin in Sanskrit will help in the promotion and conservation of one of the most-ancient languages apart from an initiative on behalf of the state TV to address the spirit of Nepal as a country with multi-lingual identity.
NTV has been airing regular programmes in Tharu, Limbu, Bhojpuri, Newari and Abadhi languages, and news bulletins in Nepali, English and sign language.
Chair Bista also said radio talk shows on various Sanskrit texts would also be started after looking at the kind of response the news bulletin in Sanskrit generates in society.
He said the newscast in Sanskrit has been started on the sidelines of the Constitution Day. Radio Nepal had started broadcasting news in Sanskrit language for the first time in 1995. (RSS)
