Saptari police have launched a three-month campaign to prevent the incidents of rape. There has been a spike in rape cases in Saptari of late. Eight rapes were reported in the past one month. Police believe campaign will raise awareness and encourage rape victims to report the crime so the perpetrators can be brought to justice. The District Police Office recorded 65 rape incidents in the past three years; in 32 of these cases, the victims were raped by their close relatives. DSP Shrestha said they also plan to start a rehabilitation service for rape victims.
Two rapes reported in Mahottari, Makwanpur
MAHOTTARI: Two incidents of rape have been reported in Mahottari and Makwanpur. According to Mahottari police, a 14-year-old girl was raped at Sundarpur in Sonama Rural Municipality-7 on March 28. The suspect, Chand Ahamad, is at large. In Makwanpur, police have arrested Nawaraj Sunar, 25, on charge of raping an intellectually-challenged girl in Makwanpurgadhi Rural Municipality on Sunday. The girl was raped while she was returning home after appearing in the SEE exams. Sunar was arrested on Monday based on the complaint registered by the girl’s family.
