Five die of ‘viral fever’ in Bajura village

Five persons have died and many more have fallen ill after being struck down by viral fever at Jagannath Rural Municipality-2 in Bajura over the past few days.
Karna Bahadur Bista, the ward chairman of Jagannath-2, said Thapa Nath, 60, Karna Shahi, 55, Mana Bista, 72, Supar Bista, 36, and Bana Bista, 67, died recently after contracting viral fever, which has been spreading in the area for the past two weeks.
Ram Dutta Neupane, the acting executive chief of the rural municipality, said that almost every household in the ward has at least one member suffering from viral fever.
The District Public Health Office (DPHO) has collected samples from some of the patients and sent them to the National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu for test.
It has also mobilised health workers from Kolti Primary Health Centre to the affected areas to administer treatment.
Dr Rupchandra Bishwokarma, the DPHO chief, said private health facilities have also been requested to send their staff to the Jagannath while the regional medical stores in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj have been urged to supply medicines.
Patients of cold-related diseases have also increased in different parts of Bajura in the recent days.
Dr Bishwokarma said hundreds of people are down with cold-related ailments in places like Pandavgupha, Swamikartik, Gaumul and Chhededaha.
The DPHO has already deployed health workers to the affected areas, he added.
