Two motorable bridges, five cause ways, 16 culverts, 2,000 metres road and 81 community schools were damaged in the floods and inundation, according the District Technical Office (DTO).
“Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality was affected the worst in terms of physical damage, with the technicians assessing the damage worth Rs 160 million there,” said Gangadhar Lamsal, the account officer at the DTO.
“The preliminary assess shows that infrastructure worth in excess of Rs 1 billion was destroyed in the disaster.”
The floods also damaged the embankments constructed along the Rapti river, leaving human settlements on the river banks at high risk.
According to engineer Netra Bilas Poudel at Division Road Office in Nepalgunj, four major bridges along the Eastwest Highway have were also damaged in the floods.
