The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) is set to launch a probe against 200 civil servants, including lawmakers, government secretaries, on charge of illegally amassing properties.
A few lawmakers, half a dozen serving secretaries among government employees from ministries looking over infrastructure development like roads, irrigation and energy, are under the CIAA radar, according to a source at the anti-graft body.
“These officials were short listed after a preliminary investigation of around 2,000 public officials based on intelligence gathering,” said the source. “The CIAA could launch a formal investigation by next week.”
The latest development means the CIAA has widen its corruption probe net against 500 government officials, with 300 already under investigation on charges of amassing wealth through illegal means.
Those facing probe will be instructed to fill out 13-page property details.
“We will verify their property details by gathering information from different government agencies,” the source said.
