A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday formed a 5-member investigation committee. The members include Ganesh Adhikari of NID, AIGs Jiwan Thapa and Pratap Thapa and joint-secretary at the Home Ministry Binod KC.
However, Tharu lawmakers during a meeting with the Prime Minister demanded an independent panel under any of the current justices. "We don't want a former top cop to head the investigation," said Madhesi Jandhaikar Forum-Loktantrik lawmaker Ram Janam Chaudhary.
At least eight people, mostly security personnel including SSP Laxman Neupane, and a two-year-old boy died when demonstrators protesting against proposed seven-state model clashed with police in Tikapur on Monday.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also decided to promote the deceased officials by one rank in view of their dedication to their services.
