Incumbent Chief Justice Ram Kumar Prasad Sah retires on July 11 due to his age. Shrestha will take the oath of office and secrecy from the President on the same day.

The Committee recommended Shrestha’s name today after he gave satisfactory answers on the questions raised about him.

The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee had received four complaints against Shrestha. However, he succeeded in convincing the lawmakers with his answers.

The Interim Constitution has made it mandatory for candidates recommended for the position of chief justice, justices, ambassadors and commissioners at various constitutional bodies to undergo the parliamentary hearing.
