Sushila Sigdel, of Deudakala in Bansgadi Municipality in Bardiya district, died on Tuesday after undergoing an operation because of complications while giving brith to a child.
Sigdel’s family members and relatives have blamed negligence on the part of doctors involved in her operation for her death.
"She was doing fine during previous check-ups and until she was brought to the hospital,” said SIgdel’s husband, Bishnu Poudel. “But she died after the operation. We suspect there was something wrong while performing operation.”
However, the doctors deny any wrongdoing and said that her health condition had deteriorated after the operation. “We carried out a second operation due to internal bleeding and referred her to Kohalpur Medical College where she could undergo dialysis and be kept in a ventilator,” said Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sah, who was involved in her treatment. “However, the ventilator was occupied and she died while making preparations for taking her to Lakhnau, India, for treatment,” he added.
The family members refused to claim the body demanding an investigation into the incident.
Bowing down to their demands, the Health Ministry has formed a committee under the coordination of Dr Guna Raj Lohani, chief of curative division, to look into the matter.
The newly-born bay, however, is said to be fine.
