Then king Birendra Shah, queen Aishwarya Shah, crown prince Dipendra Shah, prince Nirajan, princess Shruti and other royal family members were massacred on the night of June 1, 2001.
At the programme organised by the Yogi Narahari Nath Trust Spiritual Council, well wishers of the former royal family, then staffers of the royal palace and members of the general public were present to pay respects to the deceased royal family members.
Speaking at the function, Chairperson of the Council Shanker Poudel described late king Birendra as a very popular king who acted as per the aspirations of the people.
