Zombie industries must die
No wonder these zombie industries must die. But I seriously doubt that the present government has the guts to act.I completely agree with the author on the state of our zombie industries (‘Sometimes, it's better to cut off dying industries’, July 18). I have been working in a government-owned institution for more than 20 years. New industries have sprung up, pointing to the fact that this zombie institution is not needed. Yet, the government doesn't stop feeding it, all in the name of nationalism. What’s more, the employees never stop exploiting resources. Recently, a board member even sojourned to Canada on institutional money. Now, others are following suit.
Corruption is so rife that I can't sleep thinking about all this mismanagement. It's sad that the majority of the employees love kickbacks, even when their salaries are over the industrial average. No wonder these zombie industries must die. But I seriously doubt that the present government has the guts to act.
