Nepal reports 1,981 new Covid-19 cases, one death
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,607 and the number of active cases stands at 9,522.Post Report
Nepal on Tuesday reported 1,981 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 835,927.
Similarly, 463 people tested positive in a total of 4,385 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Tuesday, 4,948,237 PCR and 865,228 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 10,648 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
In its regular situation report, the ministry did not mention the death toll over the past 24 hours. It, however, reported one Covid-19-related fatality.
The countrywide death toll has now reached 11,607. The number of active cases stands at 9,522 and the rate of infection positivity is 18.60 percent.
According to the World Health Organization, if the positivity rate, or the number of tests that return positive for every 100 tests, is more than 5 percent, the pandemic is supposed to be beyond control.
According to the ministry, 814,798 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 313 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 1,286 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 980 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 221 in Lalitpur and 85 in Bhaktapur.
The Covid-19 cases from PCR tests crossed the 1,000 mark in Kathmandu Valley for the first time since August 17.
In the past 24 hours, 126 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 69 in Province 2, 1,431 in Bagmati, 148 in Gandaki, 115 in Lumbini, 11 in Karnali and 79 in Sudurpaschim.
On Tuesday, 93 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 19—three in Province 1, 15 in Bagmati and one in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Monday reported 1,357 new coronavirus cases and two deaths. Similarly, 841 new coronavirus cases and two deaths were reported on Sunday and 696 new coronavirus infections were reported on Saturday.
