Cooperative victims on Monday submitted a complaint to the Kaski district police against three people including Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane in a cooperative fraud case.
Depositors of the Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Savings and Credit Cooperatives presented the details to the district police also against Dipesh Pun, son of former vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun, former chair of the cooperative Gyan Bahadur Bomjan and 15 different companies.
Kaski Police Chief Superintendent of Police Mohan Kumar Thapa said an investigation is already underway against those mentioned in the application. The district police office, however, described the complaint as a supplementary application as a complaint had already been registered on the same issue.
“A group of victims on Monday provided additional information while the investigation is already underway on the issue. Filing a complaint once is enough for cases sub-judice in court,” said SP Thapa. “Investigation will be conducted not only against those named in the application but any individual found involved in the fraud.”
He said a supplementary investigation report will be prepared after the investigation and will be submitted to the court through the district attorney's office.
“We have already deployed an IT officer of Kaski jail for an investigation into the case.”
The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) has issued a diffusion notice against three people accused of cooperative fraud. The global law enforcement agency has issued a notice against Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai, who is the founding chairman of Suryadarshan cooperative, its incumbent chairman Than Bahadur Budha Magar, and former chairman Bhupendra Rai.
A complaint has been lodged at the Kaski district police office accusing 19 individuals, including Rai, of embezzling over Rs1 billion deposited at the cooperative. The case is under investigation.
