Munsey’s explosive 78 runs power hosts to a dominant total as they seal the series in Glasgow.
Post Report
Scotland defeated Nepal by 34 runs in the final match of the Scotland T20 Tri-Series at Titwood, Glasgow, in Scotland on Friday, to secure the series title.
Opting to bat first, Scotland posted a formidable 193 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs, largely propelled by a blistering 78 off 39 balls from opener George Munsey, who was named Player of the Match. Munsey struck five fours and six sixes, setting the tone for the innings with an aggressive start. After the early dismissal of Mark Watt (9), Munsey and Brandon McMullen (42 off 30) added a 100-run partnership for the second wicket, taking Scotland to 134 in the 13th over.
Although Nepal pulled things back slightly in the latter half by claiming a few quick wickets—two of them to Kushal Bhurtel and one each to Sandeep Lamichhane, Lalit Rajbanshi, and Rupesh Singh—Michael Leask’s unbeaten 26 and Matthew Cross’s 17 not out pushed Scotland close to the 200-mark. Dipendra Singh Airee and Rijan Dhakal proved expensive, conceding 50 and 35 runs respectively in their four and three overs.
Chasing 194 for victory, Nepal lost early wickets and could not recover. Openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh fell inside the first four overs, and captain Rohit Paudel’s promising 27 off 20 was cut short before he could convert it into a match-defining innings. Nepal were 87 for 6 by the 12th over.
Dipendra Singh Airee (34 off 33) tried to stabilise the innings, but Scotland maintained control through disciplined bowling. Chris Greaves stood out with figures of 3 for 27, while Safyaan Sharif claimed 2 for 7 in his two overs. A late surge by Rupesh Singh, who smashed an unbeaten 43 off just 22 balls, including three sixes, gave Nepal a glimmer of hope, but it was too little too late as they were bowled out for 159 in 18.5 overs.
