Nepal registered a thrilling two-wicket win against Scotland with just one ball to spare in the third match of the Scotland T20 Tri-Series in Glasgow, Scotland, on Tuesday.
Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, Nepal’s bowlers produced a disciplined performance to restrict Scotland to 97 all out in 19.4 overs. Sandeep Lamichhane was the standout performer, claiming four wickets for just 11 runs in his four-over spell. He was well supported by Karan KC and Dipendra Singh Airee, who picked up two wickets each.
Scotland’s innings never gained momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. The top order collapsed early with Mark Watt (1), George Munsey (8), Liam Naylor (1), and Finlay McCreath (2) departing inside the first four overs. Michael Leask played a lone hand with a resilient 46 off 46 balls, while captain Matthew Cross added 15.
In reply, Nepal’s chase began cautiously. Opener Kushal Bhurtel anchored the innings with a patient 30 off 35 deliveries. Despite a few aggressive strokes from Lokesh Bam (9) and Basir Ahamad (13), the middle order struggled to accelerate. Captain Rohit Paudel fell for 7 and Anil Sah for 3 as Nepal lost wickets at regular intervals.
Dipendra Singh Airee (14) tried to stabilise the chase, but his dismissal in the 15th over left Nepal in a tricky position at 75-5. A tense finish unfolded as wickets continued to tumble. Scotland’s bowlers, led by Safyaan Sharif (2-13) and Michael Leask (2-21), kept the pressure on, reducing Nepal to 97-8.
With one run needed off two balls, Karan KC and Sandeep Lamichhane held their nerve to take Nepal over the line in 19.5 overs, finishing at 98-8.
Sandeep Lamichhane was named Player of the Match for his match-winning spell. The win gave Nepal two crucial points in the tri-series, which also features the Netherlands.
