Nepal produced a clinical bowling performance to dismiss hosts Scotland for just 97 runs in 19.4 overs in their second match of the ongoing T20I Tri-Nation Series at Titwood Cricket Ground, Glasgow, on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, captain Rohit Paudel opted to field first, a decision that paid off immediately as Dipendra Singh Airee bowled Mark Watt for 1 in the very first over.
The next over saw Karan KC trap George Munsey, completing his 100th T20I wicket, before Liam Naylor was run out by Lokesh Bam for just 1.
Karan then removed Finlay McCreath for 12, and Lalit Rajbanshi sent back Brandon McMullen for 10, reducing Scotland to a dire 24-5 by the fifth over.
Star leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane took charge from there, weaving a masterful spell that saw him claim 4 wickets for just 11 runs in 4 overs, including a maiden. He dismissed Scottish captain Matthew Cross (15), Christopher McBride (0), Jack Jarvis (0), and Safyaan Sharif (6), coming close to a hat-trick on two occasions.
Only Michael Leask offered any real resistance for Scotland, scoring a gritty 46 off 46 balls, with four boundaries and a six, before being bowled by Airee in the final over. Airee finished with 2 for 24 from 3.4 overs.
Nepal made one change from their previous match against the Netherlands—bringing in Basir Ahmad to replace injured fast bowler Nandan Yadav.
This was Nepal’s first official T20I encounter against Scotland, although they previously met in the 2013 T20 World Cup Qualifier in the UAE, where Scotland had won by 8 wickets. At that time, Nepal had not yet been granted T20I status. Nepal later edged Scotland in the same tournament’s group stage by one run to qualify for their maiden T20 World Cup.
Nepal, who lost a dramatic triple Super Over thriller to the Netherlands on Monday, now have a strong chance to register their first win in the series as they pursue a modest target.
