Having lost three of the last four games, Bagmati and Karnali, in their respective fifth game, were desperate for a win on Tuesday.
Post Report
Bagmati Province and Karnali Province registered their second win of the seventh edition of the Men’s PM Cup on Day 10 defeating Gandaki and Koshi, respectively. It was the fifth game of the tournament for both Bagmati and Karnali.
Having lost three of the last four games, Bagmati and Karnali, in their respective fifth game, were desperate for a win on Tuesday.
Siddhartha Cricket Stadium in Rupandehi saw high scores as Bagmati, having been invited to bat first, asked Gandaki to chase 289 runs in 300 deliveries. In response, Gandaki could only reach 219 before getting all out in 44 overs.
There were three individual half-centuries—Ishan Pandey (69 off 82), Shubh Kansakar (52 off 51) and Bipin Acharya (63 off 42)—that powered Bagmati to the joint-highest total of the edition. It was the third time that a team posted a total of 288 in the seventh edition.
Nepal Police Club had posted the same target to Koshi and Madhesh on March 12 and 15, respectively.
Gandaki, while struggling to take wickets and put pressure on Bagmati, saw teenage batter Arjun Kumal take four wickets. While Kumal was playing his 15th game in the Men’s PM Cup, it was the fifth time he bowled for his team; he has eight wickets in total in the tournament's history. Bipin Khatri and Subash Bhandari also picked two wickets each for Gandaki.
While he shone with the ball, Kumal could not do enough with the bat. In-at-three Vansh Chhetri’s 55 off 90 was the only decent inning for Gandaki. Gandaki’s batting lineup showed hope as the players were at least reaching double digits, even if they lacked consistency.
Ishan Pandey bagged four wickets while Sakar Gajurel took two in the downfall of Gandaki. It was the fourth loss for Gandaki in five games.
On the other hand, Koshi, the team that ended a three-game losing streak with a win over Gandaki on March 16, returned to the wrong side on Tuesday.
Koshi were bundled out for a paltry 91 runs in 35 overs while chasing Karnali’s target of 219 runs. Arjun Gharti stayed not out at 88 off 95 to post a decent total.
Koshi’s top order did not score even 50 runs with the bat in total. Karnali skipper and spinner Diwan Pun bagged two wickets. Sunil Dhamala and Dipendra Rawat also took three wickets each as Koshi fell short by a whopping 127 runs.
