Nepal secured a narrow one-wicket victory over Uganda in a thrilling encounter at the ongoing Four-Nation Women’s T20 Cup in Uganda. The match, which saw Nepal chase down Uganda’s modest total on the final ball, showcased a dramatic finish.
Nepal won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision proved to be wise as they managed to restrict Uganda to a total of just 75 runs. In reply, Nepal faced a tough challenge but managed to edge over the line with just one wicket remaining, finishing with 76 for 9.
Sana Praveen top-scored for Nepal with 17 runs, while Puja Mahato contributed 16 runs. Rubina Chhetri also made a valuable contribution with 10 runs, but other than that, it was a struggle for the Nepali batters. Samjhana Khadka scored 8 runs, but captain Indu Barma was dismissed for just 6 runs due to a run-out. Kabita Joshi also failed to make an impact, getting out on the very first ball.
The lower order failed to provide much support, with Roma Thapa and Rachana Kumari Chaudhary both dismissed for single-digit. However, Riya Sharma (4) and Ishwari Bista (3) held their nerve to guide Nepal to victory.
For Uganda, Janet Mbabazi was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets, while Sarah Walaza took 2 wickets in the low-scoring game.
Looking ahead, Nepal’s next matches are against Hong Kong on March 10 and 14, Namibia on March 12, and a rematch with Uganda on March 13. The top two teams from the league stage will progress to the final.
Nepal’s hard-fought victory has kept their hopes alive in the tournament, with plenty of action still to come in the double round-robin format.
