Thailand clinched the Nepal Women’s T20I Triangular Series title, defeating the hosts by seven wickets in the tournament’s last match of the series on Friday. Thailand topped the points table with 10 points, securing five wins out of six matches. Hosts Nepal, however, finished the tournament winless.
Chasing a modest target of 82 runs, Thailand reached the target with 18 balls to spare at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
Opting to bat first, Nepal got off to a sluggish start as openers Samjhana Khadka and Bindu Rawal struggled against Thailand’s tight bowling. The pair managed only 20 runs before Rawal was dismissed for seven in the seventh over.
Nepal’s troubles worsened as Puja Mahato fell for six, followed by Rubina Chhetry, who was trapped lbw for just one, leaving the hosts reeling at 30-3 in the ninth over. Captain Indu Barma and Khadka attempted to rebuild, but Thailand maintained the pressure. Khadka was run out for 17, while Barma was caught off Nattaya Boochatham’s bowling for 10.
A brief cameo from Kabita Joshi (14 off 12) offered some hope, but Onnicha Kamchomphu struck twice in consecutive deliveries, dismissing Joshi and Alisha Yadav. Sita Rana Magar and Rajmati Airee pushed Nepal to 81-7 in their allotted 20 overs. Kamchomphu starred with the ball, claiming 3-15, while Boochatham, Sutthiruang, and Laomi took one wicket each.
In reply, Thailand lost Aphisara Suwanchonrathi early for five, bowled by Mahato in the second over. Nattaya Boochatham and Nannapat Koncharoenkai steadied the innings, but Nepal struck again when Barma bowled out Boochatham for 11.
Koncharoenkai anchored the chase with 23 off 32 balls before falling in the 13th over, leaving Thailand at 64-3. However, skipper Naruemol Chaiwai (27) and Phannita Maya (9) ensured a smooth finish, guiding Thailand to victory in 17 overs.
Indu Barma was Nepal’s standout bowler, taking 2-16 in four overs. Onnicha Kamchomphu’s all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match award, capping off a dominant tournament for Thailand.
