Thailand secured their third successive win in the Nepal Women’s T20I Triangular Series after they defeated the Netherlands by 17 runs in a low-scoring contest at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Monday.
Defending a modest 86-run total, the Thai bowlers delivered a clinical performance, dismantling the Dutch batting line up for just 69 in 15.5 overs.
Thipatcha Putthawon and Onnicha Kamchomphu starred with the ball with three wickets each, while Chanida Sutthiruang accounted for two crucial dismissals.
The Dutch chase faltered from the onset, with Sutthiruang striking early to remove Phebe Molkenboer for seven before Putthawon dealt a double blow trapping Sterre Kalis (7) and Robine Rijke (0) in successive balls in the fourth over.
Sutthiruang then bowled Heather Seighers for a duck in the following over to reduce the Netherlands to 21-4.
Babette de Leede offered some resistance with 25 runs off 21 but was eventually undone by Kamchomphu.
The Netherlands innings never recovered, with Federique Overdijk (0) and Eva Lynch (1) also crumbling under pressure from deadly bowling spells from Kamchomphu and Putthawong.
Caroline de Lange (10 off 12) and Iris Zwilling (13 off 30) attempted to steady the chase but Kamchomphu struck again to dispatch De Lange and Nattaya Boochatham took out Zwilling, sealing the Dutch side’s fate.
Earlier, after being put to bat first, Thailand struggled to 86 all out in 19.5 overs following a batting collapse.
Thailand found themselves in deep trouble at 24-4 in the eight overs after Zwilling, Lynch and Silver Siegers wreaked havoc on the top order.
Lynch made early inroads by dismissing Boochatham for one, while Zwilling removed the crucial wicket of Nannapat Koncharoenkai, who had scored back-to-back half centuries in the previous outings, for just five.
Lynch then sent back Aphisara Suwanchonrathi (8) before Silver removed captain Naruemol Chaiwai (8).
Phannita Maya provided brief support with a slow 12 off 31 balls before falling to Isabel van der Woning in the 15th over. Suwanan Khiaoto (1) also left, facing just two deliveries.
But Sutthiruang stood firm amid the collapse, top-scoring with crucial 27 off 28 balls to push Thailand to a defendable total.
However, her dismissal to Silver in the 18th over curtailed any hopes of a late flourish as Kamchomphu (8), Suleeporn Laomi (3) and Sunida Chaturongrattana (0) all failed to add substantial runs.
But the Thailand bowlers stepped up, showcasing a disciplined performance to maintain their unbeaten run in the Tri-Series.
With the victory, Thailand sit atop the three-team table with six points from three matches.
The Netherlands are second with four points from four matches, while Nepal remain at the bottom, still searching for their first win.
Nepal play against Thailand on Tuesday.
