Nannapat Koncharoenkai scored an unbeaten half-century to propel Thailand to a dominant eight-wicket victory over the Netherlands in the Nepal Women’s T20I Triangular Series at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Friday.
Chasing a modest target of 123, Koncharoenkai smashed a fluent 56 off 50 balls to guide Thailand to 125-2 in 18 overs.
Thailand lost opener Nattaya Boochatham to Iris Zwilling for 10 in the third over. Koncharoenkai stitched together a 35-run stand with Aphisara Suwanchonrathi, who made 28 off 24, to steady the chase before Caroline de Lange had Suwanchonrathi caught by Eva Lynch in the ninth over.
Undeterred, Koncharoenkai then forged an unbroken stand of 71 runs with Natthakan Chantham for the third wicket to steer Thailand to a comfortable victory.
Koncharoenkai hit five boundaries in her composed knock, while Chantham remained unconquered on 23 off 25 deliveries.
Earlier, opting to bat first, the Dutch posted 122-6 from their allotted 20 overs, courtesy of a half-century from captain Babette de Leede.
Netherlands made a shaky start to their innings, losing openers Phebe Molkenboer (2) and Sterre Kalis (4) to run-outs.
Robine Rijke, the architect of Netherlands’ opening win against hosts Nepal with an unbeaten 59 on Friday, fell cheaply for seven after Thipatcha Putthawong trapped her lbw in the 6.2 overs, leaving her side reeling at 28-3.
But De Leede led the recovery with a 52 off 50 balls, also sharing a crucial 76-run partnership with Zwilling for the fourth wicket.
Onnicha Kamchomphu struck in the 18th over to break the partnership by removing Leede, before Putthawong ended Zwilling’s resistance as well in the 18.2 over.
Frederique Overdijk added four off four and Lynch made four off one ball to drag the Netherlands to a respectable total, but it proved insufficient against Thailand’s disciplined chase.
Thailand next play Nepal on Saturday.
The three teams will play against each other three times in the league stage. The top-placed team at the end of the round-robin competition will be crowned champions.
