Saudis thump Qatar, pull off their first victory

Opener Abdul Waheed slammed a century for Saudi Arabia as they thumped Qatar by seven-wicket to pull off their first victory in the ACC Premier Cup in Kirtipur on Saturday.
Inviting Qatar to bat first, the Saudi team bowled them out for 216 runs with a ball to spare in the 50-over format and in the chase, made 220-3 in 34.2 overs.
With their first win after the second match in Group 'A', the Saudis opened their account on the points table and are now level with second-placed Malaysia and third-placed Oman in the team standings, on two points. But they are overall in fourth place due to the run rate. Malaysia are tottering at the bottom of the table without opening their scoring. Hosts Nepal lead the table with maximum four points from two games.
Qatar's Muhammad Tanveer contributed 46 runs off 84 balls, the highest of the innings. He struck seven hits to the fence before being caught by Abdul Wahid off Ishtiaq Ahmad.
Opener Kamran Khan scored a 39-ball 36 and Imal Liyanage played for a run-a-ball 31. Captain Mohammed Rizwan (28), Khurram Shahzad (27), Ikramullah Khan (14) and Sandun Withanage (not out 14) were the other contributors for Qatar.
Saudi Arabia's Istiaq Ahmad was the pick of the bowling, claiming four wickets in his 9.5 overs spell. He conceded 46 runs. Atif-ur-Rehman, Zain Ul Abidin and Ahmed Baladraf picked up two wickets each.
Chasing the target, Saudi opener Abdul Waheed smashed 124 runs off 108 balls with 21 hits to the fence along with a six. He shared a 118-run stand for the first wicket with Waqar Ul Hassan before being bowled by Khurram Shahzad.
Ul Hassan contributed a run-a-ball 55, studded with nine hits to the boundary. Ikramullah Khan had him caught by Mohammed Rizian. Hisham Sheikh contributed an unbeate 21 runs.
Qatar bowler Ikramullah Khan picked up two wickets. He gave away 28 runs in his five-over spell.
Kuwait stun Bahrain
In Group 'B' match at the Mulpani ground, half centuries from opener Adnan Idrees, Meet Bhavsar and middle order batter Yasin Patel gave Kuwait a two-wicket victory over Bahrain.
It was the first win for Kuwait after two matches. Bahrain, UAE and Kuwait are all tied on two points after two games each, but are placed second to fourth respectively, on net run rates.
Electing to field first, Kuwait restricted Oman to 255-7 and chased the target in 44.2 overs, scoring 258-8.
Lower middle order batter Imran Anwar played a swashbuckling innings, a 19-ball 53 studded with three boundaries and five sixes, for Bahrain. Faiz Ahmed was another notable contributor for the team, scoring 48 runs off 54 balls. Junaid Aziz (36), Sohail Ahmed (34) and captain Haidar Butt (34) were the other significant contributors for Bahrain.
Kuwait's Sayed Monib shone with the ball, claiming four wickets in his 10-over spell. He gave away 69 runs and also bowled a maiden. Shahrukh Quddus bagged two wickets.
In the run chase, opener Idrees scored 56 runs off 46 balls that included 11 hits to the fence. Number three batter Bhavsar contributed 54 runs off 59 balls with the help of five fours.
Patel played an unconquered knock of 63 runs facing 89 deliveries that included two boundaries and a six.
Bahrain bowler Abdul Majid picked up three wickets.
