Nepal national cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane has been nominated in the overseas player draft of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022/23 season.
The BBL on Wednesday unveiled 71 new entrants to the draft pool that was headlined by the entries of spin wizards South African Imran Tahir, Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya and Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahmah.
A Big Bash regular, Lamichhane is the sole representative from Nepal and will be eligible for retention by Hobart Hurricanes, having played for them last season.
The 22-year-old spinner played his first two seasons in the Australian franchise T20 league from Melbourne Stars and went on to take 26 wickets in 21 innings. He moved to Hurricanes in 2020 and has taken 22 wickets in as many matches across two seasons.
A total of 169 cricketers from 15 countries have submitted their names for the August 28 draft that will see eight franchises fill their squad.
Lamichhane is also set to play for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League 2022.
