Army reach semis after Province 1 lose
Sudurpaschim's win over Province 1 confirms semi-final spot for Army as Group 'A' runners up.

Sudurpaschim Province and Lumbini Province bowed out with victory in the Prime Minister Cup National Twenty20 cricket tournament at the TU grounds in Kirtipur on Sunday as Tribhuvan Army Club confirmed their semi-final berth from group 'A'.
Sudurpaschim, already out of the knockout stage, edged Province 1 by seven wickets to send them crashing out of the semi-final race with a match in hand. The outcome also secured Army's passage into the semi-final as Group 'A' runners up with five points. Police, with a match in hand, were already assured of semi-finals as group winners with six points. Province 1, yet to play a match against Police, are at the bottom of the standings with one point.
In the dead rubber matches of Group 'B', Lumbini registered a comfortable five-wicket victory over Gandaki to send them home without opening score in the standings. Lumbini finished third with four points, winning two out of four matches played. Nepal Armed Police Force Club and Bagmati have entered semis from the group as winners and runners up.
In the early kickoff, batting first, Province 1 posted 158-9 before Sudurpaschim made 164-3 with five balls to spare. Province 1 batter Mukunda Yadav contributed 27-ball 34 with four fences and a six. Sonu Ansari hit 26-ball 31 with four fences and a six. Openers Minash Thapa and Ankit Subedi contributed 23 runs each.
Sudurpaschim bowler Hemant Dhami and Narayan Joshi claimed two wickets apiece.
Chasing the target, openers Raju Rijal and Santosh Bhatta made the light work of Province 1 with a 98-run stand for the first wicket. The player of the match Rijal smashed 52-ball 68 comprising nine fours and two sixes. He was trapped leg before by Kamal Khatri. Captain Bhatta hit 39-ball 48 that included four fences and three sixes. Arjun Saud contributed not out 26 off 11.
Apart from Khatri, Province 1 bowler Firdosh Ansari and Mukunda Yadav pocketed one wicket each.
In another match, Gandaki were bowled out for 104 runs in 19.1 overs despite a half-century from Anil Gurung. He hit 50 off 39 that included five boundaries and two sixes. Captain Bishal Paudel contributed 16 runs and Bidhan Shrestha 14 runs.
Anil Kharel was the pick of Lumbini bowling claiming four wickets in his four-over spell conceding 15 runs.
In the run chase, opener Dev Khanal played a quickfire 56 off 26 as Lumbini made 106-5 in 13.1 overs. Player of the match Khanal hit 10 fences and a six. Sushant Thapa contributed 37-ball 26 that included three boundaries.
Province 1 bowler Subash Bhandari grabbed three wickets in his four-over spell conceding 21 runs.
Police will vie against Province 1 at TU grounds in the dead rubber clash on Monday.
