APF clinch Prime Minister Cup national T20 title
The departmental team edge past Province 1 by seven wickets in the final match to avenge the last edition’s six-run defeat suffered in Lamahi.Sports Bureau
Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club edged Province 1 by seven wickets to clinch Prime Minister Cup Women's National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament on Sunday and avenge the defeat suffered during last edition in the final at Fapla Cricket Ground in Dhangadhi.
Put into bat first, national captain Rubina Chhetri-led Province 1 came up with a poor show in the batting department and were restricted at 68-3. Chasing the meager target APF made 68-3 in 14.2 overs to take a sweet revenge of the six-run defeat suffered in Lamahi in January earlier this year.
Winners APF bagged a purse of Rs500,000 and the runners up Province 1 walked up with Rs300,000 along with trophies and certificates.
Province 1 captain Chhetri and number three batter Apsari Begam were the only players to score in double digits as other batters were out cheaply. Chhetri, who came to open the innings, scored 43 off 46 that included three fences. She was bowled by APF captain Sita Rana Magar in the first ball of the 18th over.
Begam played a slow innings of 34-ball 11 before she was sent to the pavilion by Karun Bhandari.
APF captain Rana Magar was the pick of the bowling claiming three wickets in her four-over spell. The player-of-the-match conceded 12 runs. Rekha Rawal grabbed two wickets in her four-over bowling giving away 11 runs.
In the run chase, APF opener and wicketkeeper batter Jyoti Pandey and Mamta Chaudhary made the light work of Province 1 with unbeaten knocks. Pandey scored 36 off 39 that included six fences. Chaudhary hit two fours in her 23-ball 19.
Province 1 captain Chhetri claimed all three wickets in the innings. She trapped opener Indu Barma leg before for five runs and bowled out Rajmati Airee for a duck while Roma Thapa was caught by wicketkeeper Kajal Shrestha. Chhetri conceded 10 runs in her four overs bowling that included a maiden over.
Chhetri was also declared the player of the series. She scored 157 runs in five matches and grabbed eight wickets in bowling. She got a prize of Rs25,000 for her feat. Her teammate Apsari Begam was declared the best batter and Alisha Khadiya best bowler. They were rewarded with Rs15,000 each.
