Province 1, APF to lock horns in PM Cup final
Chhetri’s side thump Sudurpaschim by nine wickets while the departmental team beat Lumbini by 38 runs in semis.Sports Bureau
National captain Rubina Chhetri-led Province 1 set up the title clash against Nepal APF Sports Club as they both won their semi-final matches of the Prime Minister Cup Women's National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at the Fapla Ground in Dhangadhi on Saturday.
Province 1 registered a thumping nine wicket win over Sudurpaschim Province while APF pulled a 38-run win over Lumbini Province.
Electing to bat first, Sudurpaschim made a poor start to their innings and were restricted to 85-7 before Chhetri's Province 1 surpassed the target for the loss of one wicket in 16.5 overs.
Sudurpaschim made a shaky start to their innings and lost the first four wickets for 14 runs on board. Captain Ritu Kanoujiya, who came to bat at number four and Samjhana Khadka gave brief resistance to the innings putting up a 45-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Kanoujiya scored 25 runs off 42 and Khadka 27 runs off 33, the highest in the innings, before the duo were run out. Both of them hit a boundary each. Dolly Bhatta was the other batter to score in double digits, contributing 12 runs facing eight deliveries. She hit two fences.
Province 1 captain Chhetri, Jyoti Danwar, Alisha Khadiya and Sangita Rai claimed a wicket each.
In the run chase, captain Chhetri scored unbeaten 31, the highest of the innings and also shared a 53-run stand for the first wicket with Kajal Shrestha who scored 28 runs. The player-of-the-match Chhetri scored four fences in her 44-ball knock. Shrestha also cracked four fences facing 31 deliveries before she was bowled by Kabita Joshi in the 10th over.
Sudurpaschim bowler Joshi gave away 25 runs in her four-over spell with a maiden over.
In the second semi-final, APF's Roma Thapa struck unbeaten 42 as they posted a challenging total of 129-3 after choosing to bat first. In bowling, Rekha Rawal grabbed three wickets for the departmental team as they restricted Lumbini to 91-5.
APF openers Rajmati Airee contributed 14 runs and Jyoti Pandey 11 runs. But Thapa and Mamta Chaudhary shared a 47-run stand for third wicket to guide the departmental team to a challenging total before the latter was dismissed.
The player-of-the-match Thapa struck four fences in her unbeaten knock of 41 balls. Chaudhary struck 22-ball 27 that included four fences. Sita Rana Magar remained unbeaten on 18 runs. She struck two boundaries facing 15 deliveries.
Lumbini bowlers Nary Thapa, Madhu DC and Kritika Marasini picked one wicket each.
Chasing the target, Nary Thapa contributed not out 38 runs as Lumbini lost two wickets for 28 runs on the board. Apart from Thapa, who contributed 48-ball 35, opener Nitu Bhandari was the other batter to contribute in double digits scoring 18 runs.
Veteran Thapa hit five boundaries while Bhandari struck a four in her 35-ball knock before being dismissed by Sita Rana Magar.
Rekha Rawal was the pick of APF bowling claiming three wickets in her four-over spell. She conceded 15 runs.
The final will be played on Sunday.
