Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and national skipper Rubina Chhetri's Province 1 set up the title clash of the Prime Minister Cup Women's National twenty20 cricket tournament after wins in their semi-final matches in Lamahi, Dang, on Saturday.
Star-studded APF registered a nine-wicket win over Sudurpaschim Province in the first semi-final while Province 1 crushed Lumbini Province by 10 wickets to set up the summit clash for Sunday.
Electing to bat first, Sudurpaschim scored 60-7 in the match reduced to 16 overs due to fog. In the run chase, APF surpassed the target for the loss of one wicket in 15 overs. Despite choosing to bat first, Sudurpaschim again flopped in batting as they lost batters cheaply in regular intervals.
Opener Rewati Dhami, who contributed 12 runs, and Kabita Joshi, who remained not out on 22 runs, were the only players to reach double digit runs. APF bowler Karuna Bhandari grabbed three wickets in her four-over spell. The player of the match conceded 11 runs.
In APF's reply, opener Jyoti Pandey remained unbeaten on 26 runs and Sarita Magar on 19 runs. Pandey hit a boundary in her patient knock off 38 balls while Magar also hit a fence facing 35 deliveries. Skipper Sita Rana Magar contributed seven runs before she was caught by Dolly Bhatta off Kabita Kunwar.
The late fixture saw Province 1 restrict Lumbini for 52 runs in 14.1 overs in the 20-over game. Nitu Bhandari contributed the highest 21 runs for Lumbini, who chose to bat first after winning the toss. None other batters contributed significantly for the team.
Province 1 bowlers Sangita Rai and Ngima Tamang grabbed two wickets apiece. Rai was named the player of the match.
Province 1 openers Kajal Shrestha and Chhetri, the captain, made the light work of Lumbini as the duo put up an unbeaten 55-run partnership to guide the team to victory in 8.5 overs. Shrestha smashed 22 off 23 which included two fences. Chhetri cracked 26 from 30 deliveries that included two fours and a six.
Finalists APF and Province 1 are the only undefeated sides of the tournament.
