Sudurpaschim, Province 1 open with wins

Sudurpaschim Province and Province 1 made winning starts to their campaign of the Prime Minister Cup Women's National twenty20 cricket tournament in Lamahi, Dang, on Tuesday.
Sudurpaschim registered a 59-run win over Gandaki Province in the first match of Group 'B' while Province 1 grabbed a 46-run win over Bagmati Province.
Electing to bat first, Sudurpaschim were bowled out from 107 runs with three balls to spare. But Gandaki faltered in the run chase as they managed 48-6 with none of the batters able to touch double figures. They got 15 extra runs.
Earlier, Rewati Dhami of Sudurpaschim contributed 27 off 36 to guide them to a fighting total. The player-of-the-match hit two boundaries before being caught by wicketkeeper Soniya Thapa. Skipper Bindu Rawal (13 runs) and opener Manju Bokati (10) were the other players to score in double figures.
Alisha Lamichhane and Sristhi Poudel of Gandaki claimed three scalps each.
In the late fixture, a half century from skipper Rubina Chhetri guided Province 1 to 106-5 before they bowled out Bagmati Province for 60 runs in 16.4 overs. Chhetri, also the national team skipper who chose to bat first, scored 55 with ball-a-run. She hit four sixes before being caught by Suman Khatiwada.
Apsari Begam, who contributed an unbeaten 16, was the other batter to score remarkable figures for Province 1. Aarati Bidari was the most successful blower for Bagmati claiming two wickets in her three-over spell.
Bagmati flopped in the batting department as Kanchan Shrestha and Suman Khatiwada were the only batters to hit double figure runs. Shrestha scored 13 runs and Khatiwada 12 runs.
Ngima Tamang of Province 1 grabbed three wickets conceding 12 runs in her three-over bowling while Apsari Begam took two wickets in her one-over spell giving away three runs. Skipper Chhetri was declared the player of the match.
