National cricket team captain Gyanendra Malla and vice captain Dipendra Singh Airee were among three Nepali cricketers to test positive for coronavirus, according to Vikram Nyaupane, the physiotherapist and acting manager of the national cricket team.
Batsman Rohit Kumar Paudel and staffer Pradip Lama were the other members of the team detected with the virus. The cricket governing body on Tuesday had collected swab samples of 32 individuals—16 players, 13 ground staffers and three technical workers—for the closed camp training. But six players were not available for the camp, citing their personal reasons and they would join the camp after a few days.
Following the positive reports of the trio, CAN had called five more players—Anil Kumar Shah, Kushal Bhurtel, Lokesh Bam and Bikram Sob—for the closed camp training.
Veteran Basanta Regmi also tested positive and is isolating at his home.
CAN is organising closed camp training to prepare the national team for ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 matches. (SB)
