A Miss World Australia finalist has tragically died following a head-on car crash with two French tourists who were reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road.
The 17-year-old Elyse Miller-Kennedy, Queensland state's entrant to the 2016 Miss World pageant, died overnight after being hospitalized for over a week with critical head, chest and torso injuries, Australia's Courier Mail newspaper reported on Friday.
The crash was believed to have been caused by two French tourists driving on the wrong side of the road, reported the media.
Authorities are yet to formally interview the French driver who is also recovering in hospital from the crash, and any charges will rest with evidence from forensic investigators.
The Australian pageant community is mourning the loss of the girl who was "so mature, so happy and full of life."
"She was a beautiful, amazing girl both inside and out and she could have done anything she wanted to," current Miss World Australia Madeline Cowe said.
